Merkel: EU will consider extension of sanctions against Russia in July

EU leaders will consider the extension of sanctions against Russia in July this year and make a decision based on the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel after talks with representatives of the Polish government in Warsaw, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

"It is clear that the implementation of these agreements (Minsk agreements - ed.) will last longer than until August - September. This means that in July we will deal with this matter and on the basis of a political decision, collective decision, we will discuss an extension or make a decision on the extension of sanctions," she said.

Merkel also reminded that at the last meeting of the European Council in March of this year, EU leaders agreed that sanctions against Russia will depend on implementation of the Minsk agreements.
