War-hit Ukraine ranked higher than Belarus on Social Progress Index

Belarus is ranked 66th out of 133 countries on the Social Progress Index.

It follows from the data of the Social Progress Index published by the US-based Social Progress Imperative with the support of Deloitte, the website Delo writes.

Ukraine, which has been fighting against Russian militants in the east for more than a year, is placed 62nd with a score of 65.69 out of 100. The country demonstrated rather high results in access to advanced education, nutrition and basic medical care. At the same time, ecosystem sustainability (ranked 120th out of 133) and health and wellness (ranked 132nd out of 133) are critically low. The country is ranked low in personal freedom and choice (126th out of 133) and corruption (115th out of 133).

Ukraine is ranked higher than Belarus, Moldova (70th), Russia (71st) on the Social Progress Index. Turkey and Georgia, which were below Ukraine last year, improved their rankings and achieved 58th and 60th places respectively.

This year's leader is Norway. The top 5 also includes Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland and New Zealand. Canada (6th) is ranked highest among the G7 countries, beating the United States (16th).
