Ales Bialiatski, leader of the Human Rights Center “Viasna”, spoke yesterday at the presentation of Amnesty International’s annual report in Rome.

The event was organized by Amnesty’s national office.

In his speech, Ales Bialiatski expressed support for the work of Amnesty International activists and presented the main problems of our region. “I talked about the difficult situation of human rights in Belarus. I said that the Russian authorities destabilize the situation in the region, and war is in the air in Europe. I said that the voice of human rights defenders from different countries working for peace must be heard,” said Viasna leader.

The armed conflict in the east of Ukraine, which killed hundreds of civilians, was in the focus of Amnesty International’s 2014/15 Report on the situation of human rights throughout the world. The report, presented today in different countries, has been published on the international organization’s new website.
