Max Mirnyi of Belarus began his Memphis Open trophy quest on a good note.

In the doubles opener the Belarusian and Croatia's Ivan Dodig fought pass Nicholas Monroe of the United States and Sweden's Johan Brunstrom 7-5, 7-6 (9-7).

The first-seeded Belarusian-Croatian tandem will next meet the winner of the match between the American duo of Stefan Kozlov and Denis Kudla and Australia's John-Patrick Smith and Michael Venus of New Zealand.

Max Mirnyi won the competitions in 2011 and 2012 in pair with Canadian Daniel Nestor. During his long professional career the 37-year-old Belarusian won 48 ATP doubles tournaments teaming up with different tennis players. His recent success (with Horia Tecau) was the victory at the tournament in Beijing in 2013.

The Memphis Open will complete on 15 February.
