A session of the Main Council of the Union of Poles in Belarus, an organization unrecognized by the Belarusian authorities, took place in Hrodna.

The main problem of the organization is absence of state registration which significantly hinders its activity aimed at development of Polish education and culture. It was stated by Andzelika Borys, the chairman of the Council of the organization, Radio Racyja reports.

- First of all, having a legal status we could demand from the Belarusian authorities to respect the national minority’s rights , especially those concerning education. The status of being illegal ties our hands: we can not go to schools and cannot establish active contacts with the Department of Education and the Ministry. Polish education is the most important thing”, - she said.

At the Session of the Main Council of the Union of Poles it was agreed to establish a research committee, which will deal with the history of the Poles on the territory of modern Belarus. Andzelika Borys was authorized to represent the organization’s interests at all levels and to sign agreements on cooperation on behalf of the Union.
