Roman Yakovlevskiy: Moscow Has Bigger Fish To Fry Than Belarus

There exists a “Turkish” version of rescheduling of Lukashenka's visit to Russia, but it does not sound very convincing.

Lukashenka's official visit to Russia, which originally was to be held on November 25-26, has been rescheduled “due to heavy work schedules of the presidents of Russia and Belarus”, - “Radio Svaboda” reports.

“At first glance it all looks quite logical, – Roman Yakovlevskiy, an international observer, notes. – Putin is very busy with the counter-terrorism issues. He meets with military officers; he expects a visit of the president of France, with whom he will discuss strengthening of the global anti-terrorism fight. And then there's also the case with a Russian military aircraft that was shot down by Turkish pilots.

In general, the argument can be stated as follows – Moscow has a bigger fish to fry today, than Belarus. But we don’t know it clearly specifically what issues Putin and Lukashenka were going to discuss. A lot was on the list, including deployment of the Russian airbase in Belarus.

There also was to be a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the so-called “union” state. And it is chaired by Lukashenka. Besides, this time it was supposed to discuss the defensive facilities of this state.

It seems so that the rescheduling of the meeting can be explained by the “Turkish” version. And yet it does not sound very convincing.”
