Mikalai Statkevich: Today is Historic Day for Our Country

The former candidate for presidency Mikalai Statkevich has congratulated Svetlana Alexievich on being awarded with the Nobel Prize in literature.

“Undoubtedly, as any normal Belarusian, as any person, who loves our motherland, no matter what language he speaks, I am delighted,” he said in the comments to charter97.org website. “I am a fan of Svetlana Alexievich’s great talent and I am glad that finally this talent was evaluated in the proper way.

It is little known and little written about Belarusians in the world. Today Svetlana Alexievich has done more for our country than anyone of us. The whole world is to learn about Belarus today – it is a historic day for our country. I congratulate Svetlana Alexievich and all Belarusians.”

We remind that today it was announced that the Nobel Prize in literature for the year 2014 was given to the Belarusian writer, Svetlana Alexievich. Announcing of the laureate was made online on the official website of the Nobel Prize.
