Donald Tusk: EU should be united in defending democracy and freedom

  • 9.01.2015, 14:29

Donald Tusk calls on the European Union to remain united in relation to Russia.

The president of the European Council stressed that the EU does not carry out a policy against Moscow, but defends the world and ensures the borders on the continent, dziennik.pl writes.

“It is a policy that requires and will continue to require sacrifices. […] The EU will stay the course because fundamental values and European security are at stake,” Donald Tusk said.

He emphasised that the EU should have a common position on the defence of freedom and democracy in the eastern neighbourhood. Donald Tusk said it after the meeting with the prime minister of Latvia, which holds the EU's rotating presidency for the nearest six months.

It became known that the EU summit, which is scheduled for February 12, would focus on anti-terrorism.
