PACE rapporteur Andrea Rigoni to visit Belarus in February

Andrea Rigoni, rapporteur of the PACE's Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, is expected to pay a visit to Belarus in February 2015.

Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said it at the meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives on 28 January.

Speaking about the need to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation, the speaker emphasized the necessity to work in the European direction more actively. “In February we expect to host PACE's rapporteur on Belarus Andrei Rigoni. This chance should be used to develop a constructive dialogue with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,” he said.

Vladimir Andreichenko added that the advancement of economic interests and the development of trade and economic relations are the main priorities in assessing the international activity of the House of Representatives. “The protection of national interests in the Eurasian Economic Union is of strategic importance,” he underlined.

Vladimir Andreichenko believes that since there is no Eurasian parliamentary dimension yet and the EurAsEC Inter-Parliamentary Assembly ceased its activity, it is imperative to strengthen the bilateral parliamentary cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union as well as the parliamentary activity in the Union State, the CIS and the CSTO.
