Makei, Pildegovics discuss Belarus-EU relations in Minsk

Belarus' Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei and Latvia's Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovics have discussed the state and prospects of the Belarus-EU relations in Minsk.

Spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik told reporters on 22 January.

“During the meeting the parties discussed prospects of the bilateral political dialogue, ways to ramp up trade and economic cooperation and to expand regional ties, as well as the state and prospects of the relations between Belarus and the European Union, including within the framework of the preparations for the Riga summit of the Eastern Partnership Initiative,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

Latvia's Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovics is on a visit to Belarus to take part in the ministerial consultations. As was reported before, top on the agenda of the consultations will be the relations between Belarus and the European Union, the bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Latvia and interregional contacts.

The presidency in the Council of the European Union is held by Latvia in the first half of 2015. Latvia assumed the presidency from Italy.
