The dictator wants the National Bank to take measures to decrease the inflation rate and increase people's confidence in the national currency.

He said it during the seventh special session of the “council of the republic” when introducing the new chairman of the board of the National Bank, BelTA reports,

He noted that certain steps had already been made. “Further decisions of the National Bank should be more clear and predictable for business and population,” Aliaksandr Lukashenka said.

He stressed that the current aim was to ensure the sustainable and balanced development of the economy. According to him, the leading role belongs to the National Bank and the banking system.

The Belarusian ruble has fallen 40% in the past month. Currency exchange offices do not have enough foreign cash. Queues of people waiting for those who sell dollars and euros to banks can be seen in exchange offices.
