Lukashenka’s fate portrayed movie at Venice film festival

A movie by director Mohsen Makhmalbaf has been presented at the Venice film festival.

The film tells the story of a dictator – the president of a former Soviet republic, who was toppled in the course of a revolution and had to escape from a furious crowd with his juvenile grandson, Radio Racyja reports.

The president and his son are made-up characters, but their outer appearance brings attention, which bears a strong resemblance with Belarus’s ruler Aliaksandr Lukashenka and his son Mikalaj.

Mohsen Makhmalbaf is a dissident film maker from Iran, who once took an active part in the 1979 Iranian revolution. Before the revolution he was imprisoned for four years. Makhmalbaf’s films repeatedly fell under a ban in Iran.
