Opposition activist fired after arrest

Aleh Horban was fired after serving a term in custody on false charges.

The chairman of the civic initiative Alternative wrote about his unexpected dismissal in a Facebook post.

“I came to work after ten days in custody, but it turned out that I don't have one. I was fired. The arrest and social and political activity do not fit the image of a security guard. I am officially unemployed now,” the activist wrote.

Aleh Korban, the chairman of the civic organisation Alternative, and activist Uladz Siarheyenka were preventively detained in Minsk on the evening of July 2.

The police detained them at home and took to the Partyzanski district police department of Minsk. On July 4, the Partyzanski district court charged Korban with disorderly conduct (article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences) and sentenced him to 10 days in custody.
