Minsk activists mark Solidarity Day

Activists of the Action 16 group held a meeting on Solidarity Day.

The meeting was held in the headquarters of the Electronics Trade Union in Minsk, charter97.org learnt.

“The aim of the meeting was to remind new activists that Belarus is the only European country where international conventions and human rights agreements do not work, where opponents of the regime and journalists disappear and political prisoners are held in jails. There might have been more disappearances and deaths if it hadn't been for solidarity pickets and mutual support. We recalled rallies and discussed what we could to today to increase pressure on the authorities and to remind society about people behind bars,” an activist said.

The day of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners and disappeared politicians is marked on the 16th day of every month.
