Authorities to close part of markets and shopping centres in Minsk

It is unknown which particular markets and shopping centres will be closed.

Uladzimir Karahin, the head of the Minsk Union of Sole Traders and Employers, said it in an interview with Belorusskie Novosti.

“The golden era of sole traders, who import goods in their bags, has ended due to economic reasons. The 21st century is a century of retail chains, small, medium and big wholesale. There are 30 such chains in the country.

We know that investment programmes in regions and urban development plans have already been signed. We know which markets and shopping centres in Minsk will soon be closed,” Uladzimir Karahin said.

However, he refused to say which particular markets and shopping centres would be closed.

“I don't have the right to say it. But in accordance with the urban development plans, many of the most popular markets won't work. Investors use new approaches. The territories of the markets will be given for logistics facilities, small wholesale and similar things,” he said.
