G7 leaders arrive for summit

Leaders of the world’s major economies have arrived in Brussels for the G7 Summit, which will focus on the crisis in Ukraine.

The US and other members suspended Russia’s G8 membership earlier this year in retaliation for Vladimir Putin’s military occupation and takeover of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula.

The meeting was also moved from Russia to Belgium.

But since Russia has started pulling back its troops from the border and reluctantly accepted the results of last month’s presidential elections in Ukraine, Western leaders are thought to be looking to renew diplomatic contacts, rather than impose new sanctions.
