Angela Merkel: Germany won't hesitate to impose more sanctions on Russia

Sanctions against Russia will be toughened in case of the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

The statement was made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel before the G7 summit in Brussels, Liga.net reports.

According to her, the lack of control over the Ukrainian-Russian border allows the militants, who destabilise the situation, to enter Ukraine from Russia. “If it doesn't stop, we won't hesitate to impose further sanctions,” she said. “It is decisive that president Putin use his influence to make the separatists restrain from violence and intimidation, give up weapons and stop seizing official buildings.”

It was reported earlier that the G7 leaders, who gather in Brussels for a summit on June 4—5, plan to intensify sanctions against Russia over its actions in Ukraine.
