Hrodna-based journalist fined 4.5 million rubles

The trial against freelance journalist Andrei Mialeshka had ended in Hrodna.

The journalist was charged with working for foreign media without accreditation. The court fined Andrei Mialeshka 30 penalty units, Radio Svaboda reports.

According to Mialeshka, the ground for court proceedings was the article on the website of Radio Racyja that works in Poland. The article was about the opening of an exhibition in a Hrodna museum.

It was the third case in the Hrodna region when a freelance journalist has been tried. In early April, Ales Dzianisau, a member of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), was fined 30 penalty units (4.5 million rubles) for the “illegal production and spreading media products” (cooperation with Belsat TV channel).

In May, the Karelichy district court issued a fine of 30 penalty units to BAJ member Ales Zaleuski for cooperation with Belsat.
