Roskomnadzor, Russia's agency responsible for control and supervision in the field of media, considers blocking Facebook and Twitter in Russia.

Russian TV channel Dozhd learnt it on Friday, May 16, from Roskomnadzor's head Vadim Ampelonsky.

“The agency is considering the possibility of blocking Twitter and Facebook and doesn't see any risks [in the step]. Maksim Ksenzov formulated Roskomnadzor's position in a rather clear and detailed way,” Ampelonsky said. “He is a deputy head [of Roskomnadzor]. He speaks not as Maksim Ksenzov, but as an official representative of our agency.”

Earlier, Ksenzov told media that certain foreign internet companies refuse to establish contacts with the Russian authorities and “use users as an instrument of politics”. Roskomnadzor regards it as a “social threat” and is ready to block Twitter and Facebook in Russia, as the agency doesn't see big risks in the move.
