Belarus is Customs Union's leader in inflation rate

Consumer prices of goods and services in Belarus have risen 6.6% in the last four months.

Belarus is the leader in inflation rate among Customs Union (CU) member states, the data of the National Statistics Committee show.

Consumer prices of goods and services in Belarus increased 6.6% in January-April, while the same figures for other Customs Union's members, Russia and Kazakhstan, were 3.2% and 3.9% respectively. Prices in Belarus grew 17.2% in the past year (from April 2013 to April 2014), while prices in Russia and Kazakhstan went up 7.3% and 6.5% respectively.

Belarus is the CU's leader in what concerns the growth of food prices – 2% in the last month (against 1.4% and 1% in Russia and Kazakhstan). Belarus is the leader in increasing prices for meat (3.1%), vegetable oil (1.5%), pasta (2.9%), fruit (5.4%), alcohol (1.8%).

However, prices of some products didn't grow as fast as in Russia and Kazakhstan – sugar (0.1%), potatoes (3.4%) and tobacco (0.2%). Milk prices remain on the level of the March prices. Butter and eggs decreased in prices 0.1% and 2.7% respectively.
