Vital Rymasheuski: Lukashenka had hysterics before opposition rally

Detentions of activists in the run-up to Chernobyl Way are an attempt to intimidate people.

It has been stated by the co-chairman of the organizing committee for creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party (BCD) Vital Rymasheuski in an interview to charter97.org website.

“I wish to compliment the work of your website and express my gratitude to you, as it was probably the only independent website where one could find information that Chernobyl Way has been rescheduled, and people were reminded that it is to take place today. There was little information in the press, so there are not many people here, just about one thousand participants. Everything is going on in a traditional and peaceful way. I think that in the end many people are going to light candles and lay flowers near Chernobyl chapel after their own hearts,” he said.

The co-chairman of the BCD called mass arrests of opposition activists in the run-up to Chernobyl Way and the Ice Hockey World Championship “lawlessness and hysterics of the Belarusian authorities.”

“The authorities wanted to intimidate people before the rally, and it influenced the number of participants as well,” Vital Rymasheuski believes.
