Freight transport volume reduces 3.7% in Belarus

Companies and individuals transported 102.4mn tonnes of cargo in Belarus in the first quarter of 2014.

It is 3.7% lower than in the first quarter of 2013. In March 2014, 36.8mn tonnes were transported, which is 13.9% higher than in February 2014, AFN reports.

Rail freight transport grew 2.7% in January-March to 34.1mn tonnes; road transport was down 10.4%, to 35mn tonnes; pipeline transport reduced 2.7% to 33.2mn tonnes. Transport by air doubled to 5,300 tonnes; domestic shipment increased 6.2-fold to 125,700 tonnes.

The freight turnover performed by companies and individuals in the first quarter 2014 was 31.2bn tkm, including 15.1bn tkm by pipeline, 10.8bn tkm by rail, 5.3bn tkm by road. The freight turnover in March 2014 was 11bn tkm, which is 9.9% higher than in February 2014.
