Mirnyi/Youzhny advance into Monte Carlo Rolex Masters quarterfinals

Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny beat sixth-seeded Frenchmen Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (7-4), 6-4) and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.

In the first round the Belarusian-Russian team outplayed the international tandem Eric Butorac of the United States and Raven Klaasen of the RSA 7-5, 6-1 in the opener on 14 April. Max Mirnyi and Mikhail Youzhny will next face the second seeds Alexander Peya from Austria and Brazil’s Bruno Soares.

Max Mirnyi and Mikhail Youzhny have already played together this season. They reached the Australian Open quarterfinal in January 2014. Among their joint achievements on the court is a win at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow in 2005. During his professional career Max Mirnyi, 36, has won 48 doubles tournaments with different partners.

Today, Max Mirnyi and Mikhail Youzhny ranked 23rd in the ATP doubles rankings.

The tournament in Monte Carlo will finish on 20 April.
