Ukraine and EU will sign Association Agreement in coming weeks

This was announced by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

He reported that an agreement was reached on signing the political part of the Association Agreement in the coming weeks, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel, with whom we had a meeting yesterday, has just stated that the signing will take place very shortly, literally within a several weeks”, - Arseniy Yatsenyuk said at a press-conference on Friday on the outcomes of his visit to Brussels.

According to the Prime Minister, exclusively technical consultations are now taking place on the date of the agreement’s signing. Apart from that in the framework of that decision there is a decision on the support of further actions on lifting visas between Ukraine and the EU.

“I will give respective instructions to the members of the government to urgently develop an action plan on visa-free regime, since we are able to lift all the visa barriers for Ukrainian citizens”, - Yatsenyuk stated.

It was reported earlier that the president of the EU Council Herman van Rompuy stated after an EU summit on the Ukrainian issue that the Euorpean Union was ready to sign the political part of the Association Agreement with Ukraine before 25 May – before the pre-term presidential elections in the country.
