Russia thanks Lukashenka for recognising Crimea

Russia's Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov thanked the Belarusian dictator.

“Aliaksandr Lukashenka has admitted the fact that Crimea became a part of Russia. We are thanking him for that,” Russia's Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov told a press conference on March 27, BelaPAN news agency reports.

“The world community should understand that any attempt on the territory of Crimea after adopting the law on re-unification of Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia is an attempt on the sovereignty of the Russian Federation,” the ambassador said.

Lukashenka recognised in a conversation with journalists on March 23 that Crimea was a part of Russia.

“Crimea, just like Ossetia, Abkhazia and other regions, is not an independent state. Today Crimea is part of the Russian Federation. No matter whether you recognise it or not, the fact remains. Belarus has already declared its position on the matter. Some say that this position aims at avoiding confrontation with the two states. But Belarus is not going to confront anyone,” he said.
