A political provision of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU has been signed.

The political part of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union has been signed on the sidelines of a two-day EU summit in Brussels, UNIAN informs.

The document was signed by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, interim Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and heads of state and government of 28 EU members states.

Ukraine and the EU planned to sign the Association Agreement at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius on November 29, 2013, but president Viktor Yanukovych's government suspended the European integration course a week before the summit. The step provoked large-scale protests in Ukraine. Yanukovych had to flee abroad.
