Independent journalist got warned

Lida district prosecutor’s office warned a journalist Jury Dziashuk against violating the legislation on media.

He was subpoenaed to the prosecutor’s office on 19 February. The warning, handed in to Jury Dziashuk, says about the ban on working for foreign media without an accreditation and about the inadmissibility of publishing not verified information. It is notable that they refused to hand in a written copy of the warning to the journalist, Belarusian Association of Journalists’ press-service reports.

During his previous visit to Lida district prosecutor’s office on 10 February Jury Dziashuk was asked questions about his job. Having used his legal right, the journalist refused to answer certain questions, explaining that we works for media as a freelancer, and his articles are posted in many Belarusian web-sites, as well as newspapers and magazines.

In 2008 Jury Dziashuk graduated from BSU’s faculty of journalism, having served in the army, and returned to Biarozauka. Since then he started cooperating with local and nation-wide media such as Lida Newspaper, Priniomanskija News, Lida’s Chronicler.
