Angela Merkel: EU should adhere to its principles

The Chancellor of Germany says the crisis in eastern Ukraine can be solved if the EU follows its principles.

“We can cope with the situation [in eastern Ukraine] if we adhere to our principles,” Interfax quotes her as saying at a meeting of the German Insurance Association (GDV) in Berlin.

Merkel admitted that many German companies suffer from the EU sanctions against Russia, which also have a negative impact on the development of Germany's economy.

The Chancellor of Germany noted the West should not use military means to respond the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
