Uladzimir Khalip marks 75th birthday

Uladzimir Khalip, a famous Belarusian playwright, writer, journalist and regular contributor to charter97.org, marks his 75th birthday.

Uladzimir Khalip was born on October 7, 1939, in the Vitebsk region, where Vasil Bykau and Ryhor Baradulin were born.

He graduated from the faculty of journalism of Belarusian State University in 1963 and a postgraduate programme at the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore at the BSSR Academy of Science in 1968. He received a Ph.D. in History of Arts.

He headed Letopis studio at Belarusfilm national film studio in 1981-1986.

He wrote scripts for films and documentaries The Flame, The Time Chose Us, Mama, I am Alive, The Damned Cozy House, The Brest Fortress, Three Colours of Joy, I am a Soldier of the Brest Fortress, Zaborovno, The Slutsk Uprising and others.
