Prosecutor demands 3 years of restraint for Yury Rubtsou

Yury Rubtsou of Homel may get a term of restraint.

The trial against the activist began in Minsk's Tsentralny district court on September 16. He is charged with insulting a judge, Nasha Niva writes. Prosecutor Hardziyenka demands a 3-year term of restraint for him.

On April 28, the Savetski district court of Minsk heard an administrative case against Yury Rubtsou, who had been detained at the Chernobyl Way rally, which was permitted by the authorities. The activist made complaints during the trial, but the court ignored them. Judge Kiryl Palulekh interpreted Rubtsou's words as an insult.

On August 5, Yury Rubtsou was questioned in Minsk's Savetski district department of the Investigation Committee as a suspect in a criminal case over article 391 (insulting a judge). The offence may be punished with a fine, community service of up to 2 years, detainment of from 3 to 6 months or restraint of up to 3 years.

The trial is conducted by judge Natallia Vatsekhovich.
