Officials plan to increase the minimum length of service to receive pension.

The minimum length of service with paying contributions to the Social Protection Fund to receive pension will continue to grow in Belarus, BelTA news agency quotes deputy head of the main department of pension and social insurance at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Larysa Yashkova.

“We carry out gradual changes in the pension sector in Belarus. The process is slow but sure. The minimum length of service to receive pension was increased from 5 to 10 years on January 1, 2014. The measure has grounds, because the pensionable service is the base for pensions and pension rights. The pensionable service will grow further,” Larysa Yashkova said.

We remind that only those who paid contributions to the Social Protection Fund for more than 10 years can receive pension since January 1.

Under the document, “starting from 1 January 2014 the right for a retirement pension and service pension will only be granted on condition that obligatory insurance payments have been made to the social security fund of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security according to the legislation on state social security for not less than 10 years”.

The pensionable service was 5 years.
