Police officers searched the car carrying members of the United Civil Party and party leader Anatol Liabedzka.

The incident happened when the activists were leaving the town of Zhodzina on the evening of July 24, BelaPAN news agency reports.

“They searched the car, wrote down out passport information and took one of ten books 'Civil Party'. Let them study our history,” the politician said.

Five party activists took part in the working trip to Zhodzina.

“We visited the local market, spoke to market vendors and gave them information materials relating to their problems. We then talked to town residents,” the politician said. UCP member Dzmitry Kavalhin was detained near the checkpoint of the Belarusian Automobile Plant where he was handing out information materials.

“Police officers checked his passport, talked to someone on the phone and finally detained him,” Liabedzka said. The activist was set free later.
