“Spy” case to be submitted to court

  • 30.04.2013, 12:14

Andrei Haidukou, a young man suspected of spying, reads files of his criminal case.

Charter97.org has learnt it from his mother Volha Haidukova.

“The investigation is coming to an end. Andrei is reading the case files. I don't have other information. He writes letters and asked to subscribe him to Narodnaya Volia newspaper. I've already done it,” the political prisoner's mother said.

She says it is possible that the period of his pre-trial detention may again be extended for another month on May 8.

“I don't know if the investigation will be completed on May 8. We have public holidays on these days. I don't know if the detention period will be extended. I'd like to note that my son keeps his spirits up and even cheers us up,” Volha Haidukova said.

According to the official version, Haidukou was detained as he was “installing a dead drop with the information interesting for foreign secret services”. Many find this accusation absurd. The civil campaign European Belarus released a statement saying the activist had been detained for distributing Charter'97 newspaper. Human rights activists connect prosecution of Haidukou with his pro-opposition views and explain it with the attempts to scare young activists.
