Investigation Committee gives formal replies over cases of opposition members killings

The Investigation Committee replied to a joint appeal of the United Civil Party and human rights activists on investigating the high-profile cases.

“This is a typical formal reply without any hints of showing interest in the investigation of these flagrant crimes,” deputy head of the UCP Antanina Kavalyova says. According to her, the Investigation Committee demonstratively neglects its duties that only raises suspicions that the abductions were orchestrated by Belarusian top officials, the UCP website reports.

“The answer of the Investigation Committee did not add optimism to us, but it didn't make us idle and indifferent,” Anatol Lyabedzka thinks. “We will continue to act. The topic of abductions and killings of Belarusian politicians is among party's priorities. We are preparing applications for holding pickets in Belarusian regions. We are doing our best to include the information of the high-profile cases in the UN report on human rights situation in Belarus. Our aim remains unchanged: investigation, trial and punishment.”
