Policemen used firearms to detain hooligans in Mozyr. Three people were taken to hospital.

A police patrol faced active resistance from four young men (the older of whom was born in 1983 and the youngest – in 1992), whom they tried to detain for disorderly conduct near Ellada restaurant on March 17, BelaPAN news agency reports.

The police say one of the hooligans hit a policeman in the head with a broken bottle. The police officers said they would open fire, but the young men ignored the warning. One of the policemen made a warning shot into the air and then fired three aimed shots.

Three men were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to the legs. The fourth man was detained. The police officers sought medical attention, but taking them to hospital was not necessary.

An inquiry into the incident has been launched.
