Andrei Haidukou left in KGB jail for month more

A lawyer failed to see the activist last week.

Andrei Haidukou has been in the KGB jail for three months, Salidarnast reports.

He was left in the jail for another month though neither his relatives nor his lawyer were informed about the extension of the period of investigation.

“The lawyer warned my son would be left in the jail until March,” Volha Haidukova, the mother of the political prisoner, said. “But he wasn't informed that his term in custody would be extended.”

The women thinks her son was arrested for his opposition activity.

“I hope for better. I believe there are decent and fair people among law-enforcement officers and my son will be released,” she says.

Andrei Haidukou, 23-year-old worker of Naftan plant from Navapolatsk and deputy head of the unregistered Union of Young Intellectuals, was detained by KGB officers in Vitebsk on November 8. He is charged with “installing a dead drop with the information interesting for foreign secret services.” He may face from 7 to 15 years in prison in accordance with article 365 of the Criminal Code (treason in the form of spying).
