Russia’s $2bn loan for Belarus in early 2014

Russia will provide Belarus with the $2 billion loan in early 2014, Belarus’ First Deputy Finance Minister Vladimir Amarin told media on 25 December.

Vladimir Amarin underscored that the loan is crucial and mutually beneficial for the economies of the two countries considering global economic problems.

“As you know, Belarus is Russia’s largest trading partner in the CIS and fifth in the world. This is why the loan will work for the economies of the two countries,” he said.

“Belarus will use the loan to maintain the macroeconomic balance and keep the gold and foreign exchange reserves and the exchange rate at a stable level,” Vladimir Amarin added.
