Svitanak factory closes until January 8

Many workers of the Zhodzina-based factory have salaries lower than the official minimum wage.

Charter97.org learnt it from Svitanak's workers.

“Some employees, for example sewing operators, have a take-home salary of 800,000 rubles for several months. The warehouses are filled with unsold goods. Workers were to receive 500,000 rubles as a Christmas bonus, but received the factory's products instead of money. Svitanak doesn't work until January 8,” workers say.

Svitanak's management doesn't say if the leave will be paid.

Many Belarusian enterprises have faced the same situation. Workers of the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) and the Minsk Tractor Plant (MTZ) report about salary cuts and the unsolved problem of unsold products.
