A flat of Artsiom Babei, a Baranavichy-based activist of Belarusian Christian Democracy party, was searched on the evening of December 18.

Zmitser Shukhrai, a BCD coordinator in the Brest region, says Babei was out during the search, but his mother was at home. Police officers said the search was caused by the investigation in connection with a recent fight between Turkmen students and the local youth, the BCD press service reports.

“After the fight on December 13, policemen and riot police officers began to detain groups of young men and take them to police stations for identification. Artsiom was detained some days ago. Now the police came allegedly to look for the things having relation to the fight,” Zmitser Zhukhrai said.

Two laptops belonging to Artsiom's mother and brother were seized from Artsiom Babei's flat. Leaflets, including those about BCD's campaigns against drugs and promoting family values, were also seized. The police confiscated a baseball bat – Artsiom Babei likes to play baseball.
