No calls from political prisoner Alinevich for fourth month

The authorities of correctional colony No. 10 in Navapolatsk isolate Ihar Alinevich from the outer world.

Charter97.org learnt it from his mother Valiantsina Alinevich.

“Ihar recently received an award for his book “Going to Magadan”, but he doesn't know about it. I sent him a postcard, because postcards are delivered faster [than letters]. We don't know if our son knows the news, because he hasn't been calling us since early September. We had telephone calls every three months, but now we don't have calls at all,” she said.

The mother of the political prisoner added she had received two postcards and a letter in November.

“The prison authorities invent new ways to ban phone calls for Ihar and isolate him. He wrote in a letter of November 28 he had received many sanctions. They try to isolate him from the outer world and find alleged violations,” Valiantsina Alinevich says.

On Amy 27, 2011, judge Zhanna Khvainitskaya from Minsk's Zavadski district court, sentenced Ihar Alinevich to 8 years in a medium security correctional colony. He serves his term in colony No. 10 in Navapolatsk known for its strict confinement conditions. Mikalai Dziadok, Aliaksandr Frantskevich and Alinevich were charged with organising a procession near the Ministry of Defence, carrying out attacks on Shangri La casino and a detention centre in Akrestsin Street, and setting fire to the door of a Belarusbank office.
