Fines for driving without vehicle inspection to increase significantly

Car tax reliefs will be minimum, and fines for driving without a valid vehicle inspection certificate will grow.

The statement was made by Belarusian minister of finance Andrei Kharkavets, Interax reports.

“Car tax reliefs will be minimum. They will be applied only to the cars owned by disabled persons, public transport, ambulances and rescue vehicles,” Kharkavets said on Thursday in the parliament when introducing the draft law on amendments to certain laws of the Republic of Belarus on business, taxation and administrative responsibility.

The minister noted that fees would be paid by car owners -- both individuals and companies.

Kharkavets explained that the size of the state duty would be measured in penalty units and depend on a class of a vehicle. Citizens are supposed to pay the state duty before undergoing a vehicle inspection.

The minister noted that administrative sanctions for driving without a valid vehicle inspection certificate would be strengthened to prevent evasion of undergoing tests.

“We propose to issue fines of from 2 to 5 penalty units for intentional vehicle test evasion. Today, it is punished with a warning or a fine of 2 penalty units,” Kharkavets said.

He stressed that imposing the state duty “meets the standards of the neihgbouring countries, though fuel there costs higher than in Belarus”.
