The authorities propose to introduce a duty permitting a car to use roads in 2014.

According to the government's proposals on the taxation policy for 2014, a state duty permitting cars to use roads may be introduced in Belarus, says Aleh Seliverstau, a deputy head of the main department for budgetary policy at the Ministry of Finance of Belarus.

“We propose to introduce a state duty for giving a permit for cars to use roads. It will be a one-time payment that will depend on a car's weight. It will be applied both to cars and trucks,” Seliverstau said presenting the government's proposals to the parliament, Interfax news agency reports.

He added that the sum of the duty will be specified, but the government thinks it can cost from 3 to 5 basic units per year.
