  • 17.01.2013, 10:53

Judge Volha Komar, who obtained notoriety due to political trials, has been relieved of her duties.

The decree was signed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka on January 14, Nasha Niva newspaper reports.

Volha Komar was a judge in Minsk's Frunzenski district court. The reason for releasing her from work is expiration of her term of office.

Komar conducted the first trial over the post-election protests in 2011. She sentenced Vasily Parfyankou to 4 years in a medium security penal colony. She also conducted trials against activist Pavel Staneuski and human rights activist Pavel Levinau. She sentenced them to custody for alleged swearing.

She was banned from entering the EU.

Volha Komar studied in Yakub Kolas National Humanities Lyceum, which was later closed down by the authorities.
