Pawel Kowal: “There's no election in Belarus. It is show staged by regime”

“We should be careful to use the word 'election' in order not to create the impression that Belarus has a semblance of normality,” member of the European Parliament Pawel Kowal comments on  today's vote in Belarus.

Belarus has the so called parliamentary election on Sunday. Six main opposition parties and movements boycott the “election” and withdrew their candidates.

A member of the European Parliament and former deputy Polish foreign minister, Pawel Kowal, has no doubt there's no semblance of democracy in Belarus.

Kowal thinks the word “election” should be used carefully in this context not to create the impression that Belarus has a semblance of normality. “We have plenty of interesting elections in the East this year: in Georgia, Lithuania and Ukraine. What we see in Belarus is just a show staged by the regime,” Kowal said in an interview with Polskie Radio.
