Viktar Ivashkievich: We need a strategy to defeat the dictator

The politician commented on the results of the round table dedicated to the “parliamentary election”.

Viktar Ivashkievich said:

- Chairperson of the Rada of Belarusian Intelligentsia Uladzimir Kolas organized the round table as an opportunity to meet for political parties and movements. When he was arranging the meeting, he proclaimed that during the coming “parliamentary campaign” we all should follow a coordinated policy. The attempt to coordinate failed. I said that the campaign and any following action or event can be evaluated only when a concept enabling us to defeat the dictatorship is in place, when we have a plan on how to change the dictator’s regime. When the concept is formulated, we can evaluate all actions in terms of whether they are relevant. The “parliamentary election” should be boycotted. This “voting” is meaningless, it doesn’t solve the power issue. Lukashenka won’t leave himself. While he’s at the helm, the “election” will be forged.

Those who are going to take part in the ”election” probably hope that Lukashenka will forge the outcome in their favor. But after that he will still be doing whatever he wants, accusing those three opposition members who will be allowed to the “chamber” of all existing problems. If we don’t intend to join the parliament, then the people will wonder why we urge them to come to that “election”, why we want to make fools of them having appeared fools ourselves, why we participate in a meaningless event that can result in a legitimization of Lukashenka’s “parliament”?
