Catholic Church against hunger strikes and death penalty

Mitropolitan of Minsk and Mahiliou presented the Catholic Church’s position on hunger strikes, political prisoners and death penalty.

Tadeusz Kandrusiewicz reminded that the Catholic Church had already expressed its view on death penalty, and emphasized that “We believe that the God has given the life and the God owns the life”, Nasha Niva reports.

Archbishop commented on the political prisoners’ issue: “A cleric is probably not a most appropriate person to answer this question. We serve all people and pray for every one of them. We leave political issues to the politics. What we do is spiritual nourishment of people.”

Furthermore, Tadeusz Kandrusiewicz commented on the hunger-strike of political prisoner Siargey Kavalenka: “The social study of the Church tells everyone to take care of their health. The Church does not support a hunger strike.”
