Syarhei Kavalenka banned from writing letters

Doctors in Navinki psychiatric hospital say the reason is absence of a censor.

A lawyer visited Syarhei Kavalenka in hospital, Radio Svaboda reports. According to the wife of the political prisoner, Alena Kavalenka, her husband is still in critical condition after a long hunger strike. Alena complains doctors do not examine Kavalenka and refuse to help him. Moreover, guards forbade to pass food and medicines to Kavalenka.

Alena does not have much information about her husband's state, because he cannot write to his relatives.

“They do not have a censor in hospital. Patients write letters. They accumulated to be later sent to a place where a patient will be transferred. That was what a doctor told me,” Alena Kavalenka said.

Syarhei Kavalenka has to undergo a compulsory psychiatric evaluation that will last 24 days. It means he will be deprived of an opportunity to write letter for almost a month, political prisoner's wife noted.
