The Belarusian Transport Inspection strengthened control procedures for carriers from Lithuania and other EU countries on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.

The information was spread by the Ministry of Transport of Lithuania, Radio Svabdoa reports.

All carriers transporting third-party cargo on bilateral agreements are reported to have violations. According to the ministry, these trucks going through Belarus are detained on the Belarusian-Russian border for an indefinite period of time.

The Ministry of Transport recommends Lithuanian carriers transporting non-Lithuanian cargo to Russia on bilateral Lithuanian-Russian agreements to avoid transit through Belarus.

Representatives of Lithuanian carriers are expected to arrive in Belarus this week to clear up why control was strengthened. An interdepartamental meeting of Lithuanian and Russian agencies is to be held in Moscow next week.
