10 and 15 days of arrest for action on Sannikov’s birthday

Activists of European Belarus Anatol Askierka and Ivan Shutko are charged with the actions of support of presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov.

The opposition activists were detained 9 March, a day after they had appeared in the center of Barysau with white-red-white flags and a placard with the presidential candidate’s portrait.

A protocol on administrative violations for the action dedicated to the birthday of political prisoner Andrei Sannikov was filed on the young people.

The activists were taken to the temporary isolation jail of Barysau district police station. Today, on 10 March, they were tried in court and sentenced, Anatol Askierka to 15 days of arrest, and Ivan Shutko to 10 days of arrest.

On Tuesday 13 March Anatol Askierka was supposed to start his spinal cord treatment in a special resort.
