A lawyer visited Syarhei Kavalenka in a detention facility in Vitsebsk yesterday.

Alena Kavalenka, Syarhei's wife, told Euroradio:

“He continues his official hunger strike. Yesterday was the 58th day of strike. The state of his health makes me worry about his life. According to the lawyer, he has faced problems with visceral organs.”

Syarhei Kavelanka has not received an appeal from CCP-BPF party head Zyanon Paznyak asking to stop the hunger strike, but the lawyer told him about other similar appeals. Nevertheless, Kavalenka is not going to stop his hunger strike.

We remind CCH-BPF party activist Syarhei Kavalenka has been in a detention facility in Vitsebsk since December 22. He is accused of violation of probation. The activist was given a suspended sentence for hanging out a Belarusian national white-red-white flag. Kavalenka is to be tried in the Pershamaiski district court on February 21. Syarhei Kavalenka has been continuing his hunger strike in spite force-feeding.

Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament, called on Belarusian authorities yesterday to release Syarhei Kavelanka. “The authorities will have blood on their hands if he dies,” he said.
